Eight Tar Heels Selected to Women’s Lacrosse Academic All-ACC Team

A total of eight Tar Heels were named to the Academic All-ACC women’s lacrosse team on Tuesday, highlighted by five players who recently earned First Team All-American status as well.

Attackers Katie Hoeg and Jamie Ortega joined midfielder Ally Mastroianni, defender Emma Trenchard and goalkeeper Taylor Moreno as First Team All-Americans who also earned Academic All-ACC honors.

Caitlyn Wurzburger and Tayler Warehime — each attackers — and defender Catie Woodruff also earned Academic All-ACC recognition as well.

Eligibility for the Academic All-ACC team requires student-athletes to have a 3.0 grade point average in both their most recent semester and as cumulative average throughout their collegiate careers.

For Hoeg and Trenchard, this marks their third time on the Academic All-ACC team. It’s the second such honor for Mastroianni and Warehime.

Mastroianni, Moreno, Ortega and Woodruff are each seniors or graduates majoring in Communication Studies, with Mastroianni also in school for Media and Journalism as well.

Hoeg– the leading scorer in UNC history — is a fifth-year senior who studied Biology, while Trenchard studied both psychology and comparative literature.

Warehime is a junior majoring in Exercise and Sport Science. Wurzburger, a freshman, has yet to declare a major.

All eight players helped guide head coach Jenny Levy and the Tar Heels to a 20-1 record this past season, as the team carried the No. 1 national ranking all the way through the regular season until suffering an upset loss to eventual national champion Boston College in the NCAA Tournament semifinals.

Syracuse led all ACC schools with 11 players named to the Academic All-Conference Team, followed closely by Notre Dame in second with 10 players recognized. UNC and Duke were tied for third with eight selections apiece.
