Orange County is set to bring back its community Shred-a-Thon events beginning on Saturday, April 24, after the pandemic put a stop to them last spring.
These Shred-a-Thons allow residents of Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough to bring their confidential documents to be properly shredded and disposed of. Small businesses located in the county and employees who work for either Orange County, Carrboro, Chapel Hill or Hillsborough are also able to participate.
A new wrinkle for the event this year due to COVID-19 is that all shredding will be contactless, meaning those bringing paper for shredding will unload and dump it into carts on-site by themselves without assistance from staff.
There is a limit of four clear plastic bags–no larger than 32 gallons–or four boxes of paper per person that will be accepted.
The Shred-a-Thon on April 24 will take place in the Park and Ride Lot at 1768 Eubanks Road, while another will be held the following Saturday on May 1 behind Home Depot in Hillsborough.
Both events will be drive-through events and social distancing rules will be in place. All attendees are also required to wear a mask or face covering.
