The Carrboro Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment complex on Monday.
A release from the town confirmed the department’s involvement, also crediting the New Hope and Chapel Hill Fire Departments with assistance in the emergency. According to Carrboro’s release, members of the fire department responded to a report of an apartment fire on the 500 Block of Jones Ferry Road at 10:46 a.m. A spokeperson for Carrboro Fire Department confirmed the complex was Collins Crossing Apartments.
The town said a resident in a three-story apartment building was attempting to extinguish a fire in their living room when firefighters arrived. Crews escorted the resident out of the apartment to fully extinguish the flame before transporting them and their pet to the hospital for medical evaluation, according to Carrboro’s release.
The department reported the fire was contained to the living room area and smoke was successfully removed from the apartment. The space, however, suffered smoke and fire damages estimated to cost around $25,000. The release said the living space was deemed uninhabitable according to Carrboro town codes.
According to the town, the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The department reported no firefighter injuries as a result of the incident.
