A trio of Tar Heel football stars were selected Wednesday to the top 250 watch list for the 2021 Reese’s Senior Bowl, which will showcase the nation’s top seniors as they prepare for the NFL Draft.
Running back Michael Carter, wide receiver Dazz Newsome and linebacker Chazz Surratt each found their names on the list coming off of a 2019 season where all three players earned All-ACC recognition.
That high-level performance has also seen each player find themselves on watch lists for a number of different awards throughout the offseason.
Carter was named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award (top running back) and Paul Hornung Award (top all-purpose player).
Newsome grabbed a spot on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award (top receiver), while Surratt is on the watch list for the Bednarik Award (top defensive player), the Butkus Award (top linebacker) and the Nagurski Award (top defensive player).
Last season, the Tar Heels had only one player chosen to participate in the Senior Bowl in defensive lineman Jason Strowbridge–who went on to be selected by the Miami Dolphins in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
