Former UNC running back Antonio Williams–who played out his last season of eligibility in 2019–has returned to the team as a student assistant coach.

The program announced the news Wednesday on Twitter, stating that Williams will also be working to finish his degree.

A native of New London, North Carolina, Williams began his college career at Ohio State. Following his sophomore season in 2017, he announced his intentions to transfer to UNC–where he racked up 826 rushing yards and eight touchdowns over the next two seasons.

Williams was someone highlighted by head coach Mack Brown last season as a great locker room leader, with Brown even saying last November that he would hire him to the staff right then if he could.

Upon completion of his senior season, Williams received an NFL tryout with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent but did not ultimately make the roster.
