In partnership with the Chapel Hill and Durham chapters of the National Organization for Women, the Town of Carrboro has released a virtual exhibit called “She Changed the World!” in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment.

This amendment gave women the right to vote following a long fight for that right dating back to the 1840’s.

The exhibit acknowledges that struggle, while paying tribute to ten women who worked to change their communities and the world. It also challenges viewers to consider the ways in which they can have a positive impact on the lives of others.

According to the town, the exhibit was initially supposed to be a physical display in Carrboro, but the ongoing coronavirus pandemic — and the social distancing measures that come along with it — forced the town into making it a virtual experience instead.

“People will be interested in a lot of these women,” said Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle, “and be interested to read about their efforts toward justice, equality and advancements for women.”
