After opening the season on Friday against Middle Tennessee State by scoring 15 runs in a blowout win, the No. 23 UNC baseball team used some late-game dramatics to win Saturday’s game against the Blue Raiders by a score of 2-1.
Joey Lancellotti–who earned the win on the mound on Friday–hit a walk-off home run on Saturday to cap off a late comeback by the Tar Heels, who trailed 1-0 heading into the eighth inning before centerfielder Dylan Harris tied things up with a solo shot of his own.
It was Lancellotti’s first home run since he was a high school senior back in 2017.
Middle Tennessee State took the lead against UNC starting pitcher Will Sandy with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, but Sandy settled in after that–keeping the Blue Raiders off the scoreboard for the next six-plus innings .
For the game, UNC had just six hits but held Middle Tennessee State to just three in a classic pitchers’ dual.
