UNC baseball head coach Scott Forbes has agreed to a new contract extension which will keep him in Chapel Hill through the 2031 season. Forbes in currently in his sixth year as head coach.

In Forbes’ first five seasons in charge, the Diamond Heels have won two ACC Tournaments, appeared in every NCAA Tournament, reached the Super Regional round three times and the Men’s College World Series in Omaha in 2024. He has an overall record of 224-108-1 and was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2024.

“It is an honor and a privilege to continue to have the opportunity to serve our players and this program,” Forbes said. “Carolina Baseball always begins and ends with our players. I cannot thank all of our current and former Tar Heels enough for their commitment to this program. They are why we do what we do.”

Forbes had previously signed contract extensions in May 2023 and November 2024. At the time of the 2024 extension, Forbes’ base salary was $300,000 per year.

Before his time as head coach, Forbes served as an assistant under head coach Mike Fox for 15 seasons. That partnership helped transform UNC into a powerhouse, as the Diamond Heels appeared in the College World Series seven times. Fox retired in 2020, leading to Forbes’ promotion.

“The success that Carolina baseball has experienced under Scott has been phenomenal,” said UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham, “and that is a great credit to his dedication to developing not only terrific baseball players, but also outstanding Tar Heel student-athletes who want to give back to the Carolina community. He makes everyone around him better, and we are glad he will continue to do that for years to come.”

Forbes’ Diamond Heels are in the midst of another strong campaign in 2026. UNC is currently 24-4-1 overall, 9-3 in ACC play and has won five consecutive games. Carolina takes the field again Tuesday night at Boshamer Stadium when it hosts Campbell at 8 p.m.
