UNC and head baseball coach Scott Forbes have agreed to a five-year contract extension which will keep him in Chapel Hill through the end of the 2028 season.

“Being the head coach at the University of North Carolina is a tremendous honor,” Forbes said in a release from Carolina Athletics. “Two of the foundational pillars of our program are thankfulness and servanthood – they ring particularly true for me today.

“UNC baseball begins and ends with our student-athletes,” he continued. “This program will always be about our players, they are why we do what we do. I am humbled by the opportunity to continue to serve them and hungry for what lies ahead. To the Tar Heel baseball diehards: You are such a huge part of our success, let’s keep packing the Bosh and continue moving Tar Heel Baseball forward together.”

A longtime assistant under former head coach Mike Fox, Forbes stepped into the head coaching position after Fox’s retirement in 2020. In his two-plus seasons, the Diamond Heels have compiled a 101-66 record. That includes the 2022 ACC Championship, two NCAA Tournament appearances and the 10th Super Regional appearance in program history. This year, home attendance in Boshamer Stadium is averaging a school-record 2,809 fans per game.

“Carolina Baseball continues to be in excellent hands under the leadership of Coach Scott Forbes,’’ UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said. “He is dedicated not only to developing strong baseball players, but also to mentoring successful students who care about academics and giving back to the Carolina community. He is committed to winning at the highest level and cares deeply about the well-being of everyone around him. He leads our program in a first-class manner, and we are happy that he will remain our coach for years to come.”

When including his time as an assistant, Forbes has been in Chapel Hill for 22 seasons and each of the last 18. With Forbes on staff, Carolina has won more than 900 games and appeared in seven College World Series.
