In a hard-fought match that required extra time on Friday night in Charlottesville, the UNC men’s soccer team was on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline against the fourth-ranked Virginia Cavaliers.

Andreas Ueland scored the deciding goal in the 100th minute of action, sealing the win for Virginia–which improved its impressive record to 14-1-1 overall and 6-1-1 against ACC opponents.

The Cavaliers also opened scoring in the fifth minute with a goal from Darryl Dike and held on to that 1-0 lead for the majority of the match.

UNC (7-7-3, 3-5 ACC) finally tied the game late in the second half when Raul Aguilera found the back of the net for the first time all season.

In extra time, the Tar Heels actually created more shots that Virginia, but it was the home team that was able to break through for the winner when Ueland got to a corner kick that was bouncing through the goal box and sent it in at the back post.
