The UNC men’s soccer team picked up its second consecutive shutout victory in ACC play on Saturday in Chapel Hill, as the Tar Heels defeated Virginia 2-0.

Just a week removed from defeating then-No. 4 Pitt by a score of 3-0, UNC came out strong again against the Cavaliers (5-5-1, 3-4-1 ACC).

The Tar Heels (5-3-2, 5-1-2 ACC) scored back-to-back goals in a span of less than two minutes late in the first half.

Giovanni Montesdeoca scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute to give UNC the lead, then assisted on a goal by teammate Riley Thomas just one minute and 24 seconds later.

Tar Heel goalie Alec Smir finished the night with four saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season.
