Tuesday night marked the beginning of the NBA’s most highly anticipated regular season in a long time, with the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Los Angeles Clippers in the second game of the evening.

Behind 30 points from last year’s NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers managed to defeat a Lakers team led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis 112-102.

It wasn’t James or Davis who carried the Lakers’ offense, however, as former UNC star Danny Green had a team-high 28 points–breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for most points by any player in his first game with the team.

Green shot 7-for-9 from three-point range, and also had seven rebounds in the losing effort. The 32-year-old–who won a national championship at UNC back in 2009–shot a perfect 5-for-5 on three-pointers in the third quarter alone.

This past offseason, Green signed a two-year, $30 million deal with the Lakers to join James and Davis. Last season saw him help Leonard guide the Toronto Raptors to their first ever NBA Championship.
