On an episode of his “Winging It” podcast on Tuesday, Atlanta Hawks guard Vince Carter–a former UNC superstar–announced he will be returning for his 22nd season in the NBA next year.
Alongside teammate Kent Bazemore, who he does the podcast with, Carter made it clear as day when he said, “I’m coming back.”
Selected fifth overall in the 1998 NBA Draft, Carter will become the first NBA player to ever play in four different decades once the calendar flips to 2020 next season.
Although he spent last year as a veteran presence on a young, rebuilding Hawks team that did not make the playoffs, Carter still averaged 7.4 points per game in the 76 contests he saw action in. A free agent at the current moment, Carter has stated that he would love to come back to the Hawks next year if the team will have him.
Over the course of his career, Carter has also spent time with the Toronto Raptors, New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings.
His career averages are 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. The eight time All-Star was selected to every All-Star game from 2000 through 2007 while playing for the Raptors and Nets.
He also won the 2000 NBA Slam Dunk contest with a performance still regarded as one of the best in the event’s history.
