Wednesday night in the NBA saw the Miami Heat roll to a 115-86 blowout victory over the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena, with Heat guard–and former Tar Heel standout–Wayne Ellington setting a new NBA record.

Ellington scored 11 points and hit a trio of three-pointers in the game to surpass Houston’s Eric Gordon for most made threes in a single season by a player who comes off the bench.

Although the Pennsylvania native has made 216 threes this season, nine of those came during his two starts–meaning his record currently sits at 207 off the bench with three games left in the regular season.

“That’s a great accomplishment to set any record, any NBA record,” Ellington said after the game when informed of the stat. “I’m thankful, I’m appreciative. Like I always say, I’ve got to thank may coaches and my teammates first and foremost.

Ellington has also posted a career-high 11.1 points per game this year as a ninth-year veteran, and made his first appearance in the NBA Three-Point Shootout this past February at All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
