For the fourth consecutive season, the UNC women’s lacrosse team has won the ACC Tournament championship.
The No. 2 seed Tar Heels took care of business on Sunday in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, rallying from an early five-goal deficit to stun top-ranked Boston College 15-13–handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.
Boston College (19-1) built a 6-1 lead over the first nine minutes of action, but UNC (15-3) came back with a vengeance thanks to great performances from Katie Hoeg, Gianna Bowe and Tayler Warehime. All three of those players tallied hat tricks with three goals apiece.
UNC’s four straight ACC Tournament titles is the second-most in the history of the conference behind only Maryland’s run of six straight from 2009-2014.
“It was a great game,” Tar Heel head coach Jenny Levy said afterwards. “We were down (6-1) at the beginning of the game, we just really encouraged our kids all day to keep fighting, and they did. There were a lot of tough plays out there, both ways, between two really good teams. Boston College is great, they have had a great season and they came in with a lot of momentum. We had to neutralize their top players and take care of their secondary players who are also very good.”
