The seventh-ranked UNC men’s tennis team came up short in pursuit of a tough ACC road victory on Friday, falling to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by a score of 4-3.

As a result, the Tar Heels drop to 9-3 this season with a 2-1 record against conference opponents. With the win, Georgia Tech moves to 7-6 overall and 2-1 inside the league.

The Yellow Jackets took the win after freshman Pablo Schelcher defeated UNC’s Blaine Boyden in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in the deciding match–with the team score 3-3 heading into the end.

UNC led 2-0 and 3-2 at different points in the match, having won the doubles point then winning the first singles point with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win from Brian Cernoch.

Georgia Tech rallied back to tie things up, but William Blumberg’s 7-6, 6-2 victory put the Tar Heels within one more win of clinching the match.

It didn’t happen, however, as the Yellow Jackets managed to come back and pull the upset.
