UNC baseball is in the midst of a remarkable 2018 season, winning 44 games and earning a berth in the College World Series.

One can attribute the team’s success to many things like hard work, determination and grit.

But two Tar Heel players have a superstition that may have helped the team reach the pinnacle of success in college baseball.

During ESPN’s broadcast of Carolina’s game against Mississippi State in the College World Series, field reporter Laura Rutledge revealed that Michael Busch and Kyle Datres have a routine of visiting Cook Out every Monday. Busch orders chicken tenders, a quesadilla, fries and a banana pudding milkshake with a side of buffalo sauce, while Datres gets four chicken quesadillas.

However, there is no Cook Out in Omaha, where the Tar Heels are playing in the College World Series. Instead, they sent friends from UNC’s women’s soccer team to Cook Out and requested that they get the game order as Busch and Datres normally would.

Unfortunately, this did not work out for Carolina in the end as the Tar Heels fell to Mississippi State.

Maybe it’s time to put a Cook Out in Omaha?
