It took all nine innings this time, but the Diamond Heels were still able to comfortably beat Elon 5-1 at Boshamer Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Carolina’s offense was nowhere near its historic level showcased in its weekend sweep of Le Moyne, but still scratched across runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to take a 3-0 lead. UNC manufactured its runs in all three innings, using two RBI groundouts and a sacrifice fly to get the job done.

In the eighth, Cooper Nicholson effectively sealed the win with a two-RBI single, playing Erik Paulsen and Macon Winslow to up UNC’s lead to 5-0.

On the mound, freshman Caden Glauber got the start and tossed two scoreless innings before yielding to Walker McDuffie, who earned the win by allowing just one hit across three innings. Jackson Rose and Tom Chmielewski combined for the next three frames before Matthew Matthijs closed out the win.

UNC is now 12-1-1 on the season and has won six straight games. Up next, the Diamond Heels will begin ACC play when they host Virginia at Boshamer Stadium for a three-game series. First pitch of Friday’s opening game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
