Not much has gone right for the UNC women’s basketball team in recent weeks, as head coach Sylvia Hatchell’s Tar Heels dropped their sixth consecutive game Thursday night with a 79-61 blowout loss on the road at Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets (16-11, 5-9 ACC) blitzed UNC in the first quarter with a 22-2 run and never saw their lead get smaller than 12 points the rest of the way.
Junior guard Paris Kea led the Tar Heels (14-12, 4-9 ACC) with 15 points, but fouled out for the first time all season towards the end of regulation.
She was joined in double figures by fellow guard Jamie Cherry and freshman forward Janelle Bailey. Cherry posted 12 points, while Bailey tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
Georgia Tech, meanwhile, used 24 points from 2017 ACC Freshman of the Year Francesca Pan–as well as 35 combined points from its bench players–to pull off the victory.
UNC shot just 11.8 percent from three-point range and turned the ball over 17 times, as the struggles continue to mount late in the season.
