A last second free throw from sophomore forward Janelle Bailey on Thursday night at Carmichael Arena helped seal up a 91-90 victory for the UNC women’s basketball team over the visiting Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
The win marks three straight for the Tar Heels (13-9, 4-4 ACC), who appear to have finally found their stride late in the season.
In addition to Bailey’s late game heroics, reigning National Player of the Week Paris Kea added a team-high 29 points and guard Stephanie Watts added 18.
Bailey herself had 20 points and six rebounds.
UNC led for the majority of the game, but Georgia Tech (13-8, 3-5 ACC) took its first lead of the night with just 50 seconds remaining in regulation.
A jumper from Kea, however, helped the Tar Heels go back in front before the Yellow Jackets ultimately tied things back up at 90 in the final seconds before Taylor Koenen found Bailey in the paint for the foul that led to the game-winning free throw.
Up Next:
The Tar Heels will look to make it four wins in a row this Sunday, when they head to Raleigh to face undefeated NC State. That game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
