The advocacy group Equality North Carolina released its candidate endorsements for state and some local races on Tuesday, including endorsements for candidates in Orange County races.

The LGBTQ rights group voiced its support for the incumbent candidates in the Board of Orange County Commissioners races, endorsing Mark Marcoplos in the at-large race and Mark Dorosin and Penny Rich in the District 1 race. Equality NC also endorsed Renee Price, who is running unopposed for a District 2 seat.

In addition, the group endorsed a single candidate in the Orange County School Board race, one of the most contested of the local elections as six candidates vie for three seats. Equality NC voiced its support for Carrie Doyle, a challenger candidate.

In state and federal government races, the advocacy group endorsed Valarie Foushee, an incumbent candidate for District 23 in the state Senate, and David Price, the incumbent representative for North Carolina’s Fourth District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Kendra R. Johnson, the executive director of Equality North Carolina, shared a statement alongside the endorsements.

“We feel privileged to have such a massive number of candidates committed to issues of LGBTQ equality and social justice,” said Johnson. “While there are many candidates who stand with our communities that we haven’t endorsed, Equality NC is also committed to achieving broader representation and diversity in the halls of government in the years to come. North Carolinians deserve leaders who represent their identities, values and priorities as we head into the most important election season of our lifetime.”
