The life of legendary coach Dean Smith will be celebrated with a public memorial at 2 PM on Sunday. The service will be held in the appropriately named, Dean E. Smith Center.
Those who wish to attend will be admitted on a first-come, first- served basis.
Welcome remarks will be delivered by University Chancellor Carol Folt, followed by words from a plethora of Coach Smith’s former players and colleagues, including current head basketball coach, Roy Williams.
Video tributes and special performances by Carolina musical groups and the UNC-Chapel Hill band will also be included in the procession, which should last approximately two hours.
The event will be broadcast live, and commercial-free, on WCHL beginning at 2:00. Jones Angell will host.
Doors to the arena will open at 1 PM, and those who drive to campus should expect a traffic pattern similar to that used for men’s home basketball games.
