The third-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team clinched the ACC regular season championship on Saturday, defeating the rival Duke Blue Devils 19-7 in Durham at Koskinen Stadium.

Senior attacker Molly Hendrick spearheaded the Tar Heel offense–notching a career-high seven goals as she matched Duke’s entire output as a team.

Sydney Holman added two goals and four assists for UNC, while getting two more goals from Sammy Jo Tracy and a hat trick from Caroline Wakefield.

The 19 goals were the most UNC (13-2, 6-1 ACC) has ever scored against Duke (8-8, 1-6 ACC).

Head coach Jenny Levy’s team opened scoring in the early minutes, and held on to the lead throughout the entirety of the afternoon–clinching the top seed in next week’s conference tournament, despite a tough loss to Syracuse last week.

“I’m really happy with how my team collectively responded to the setback last weekend against Syracuse,” Levy said after the game.  “We really focused on us today, playing collectively and playing hard for 60 minutes.  When you’re unselfish and you play hard and are engaged, good things happen.”
