Cat’s Cradle has been a live music staple for over 40 years.  The Carrboro music venue has gotten plenty of national attention over the years and that has not stopped.

Consequence of Sound, a notable online music magazine, recently released the top 100 live music venues in the United States.

Cat’s Cradle landed at No. 12 on the list.

Justin Gerber of Consequence of Sound praised the Cradle, “It’s my favorite type of venue, where the audience and the performer(s) join up as one to create a memorable experience for all involved, something that gets lost in arenas and stadiums.”

Sonic Youth’s song “Chapel Hill” from their 1992 “Dirty” album is also mentioned because of singer-songwriter Thurston Moore’s reference to Cat’s Cradle.  “Throw me a cord and plug it in, get the Cradle rocking.”

Over the course of the venue’s history, artists like Nirvana, Public Enemy, John Mayer, Joan Baez, and Iggy Pop have all played at Cat’s Cradle.  More recently, notable artists like Kurt Vile and Waka Flocka Flame have taken the Carrboro stage.

Famous American venues like The Fillmore in San Francisco, New York’s Bowery Ballroom, Metro Chicago, the Hollywood Bowl, and Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club topped the list.
