Jack the Songman (Jack Carmichael) stopped by Live & Local this week, ahead of a show at Cats Cradle Back Room to celebrate the release of his debut full-length album, “Love Songs and Other Songs.”
Visit JackTheSongman.com.
“I started recording this project about two years ago, (but) the oldest song is four and a half years old,” Carmichael says of the new album, which is due out on Friday, November 15. “I started thinking of myself as a singer/songwriter in the early pandemic days…(and) I feel like that comes across in some of the material. It’s a little gloomy – but hopeful.”

Carmichael says most of his songs are also inspired by one “muse”: his wife May, whom he recently married after many years together.
“The first song I ever wrote, when I was 16 years old, was about her – before we were dating, actually,” he says. “I don’t always think of myself as the cheesiest, most romantic guy, but – I just find myself writing love songs.”
Jack the Songman’s new album is out Friday, and he’ll be celebrating with an album-release show at Cats Cradle Back Room on Sunday, November 17, with Jesse Fox and Giovanna Diora opening. (Sunday’s show is also a milestone for Diora: it’ll be her first live performance, following the release of her debut single “Poolside.”)
Visit CatsCradle.com for tickets and more information about Sunday’s show.

Jack the Songman stopped by Live & Local this week to discuss the album and the show. He also played three songs live in the studio: “Only One,” “Do What Old People Do,” and “Get By.” Listen:
