Do you realize that App State gave up 41 points to another UNC?
Appalachian State is 2-0, having scored 98 points in two wins over East Tennessee State and UNC Charlotte. But the score against dear old UNCC was 56-41. If the 49ers can score 41 against the Mounties, the Tar Heels might score 81, unless new head coach and former N.C. State offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz has somehow transformed their defense during an off week.
The Charlotte 49ers resumed playing football in 2013 after giving up the sport 65 years prior when they tried it for three seasons. The scores of their final four games in 1948 with a bunch of WWII veterans weren’t even recorded. Since returning to the gridiron, UNCC’s record is 24-49 in football subdivision play.
You think a team that let Charlotte score 41 points can come into Chapel Hill and beat the Tar Heels. In a word, it can’t. This isn’t the App State team of Jerry Moore, who won three straight Division II national championships and shocked Michigan at the Big House, or even Scott Satterfield, whose six-year record of 51-24 and three consecutive Sun Belt titles landed him in the ACC at Louisville.
Yes, I know everyone from Mack Brown to me has said this will be a very tough game, and 50,000 of you suckers (including me) bought season tickets because we were afraid the Mountaineer fans would come down from Boone and fill Kenan Stadium.
I’m glad we will all be there tomorrow, because most of us will have such a great time that we’ll be able to leave and beat the traffic before the game is over. And I base my prediction solely on the fact that UNC-Charlotte scored 41 points on these guys. Obviously with the 36-year-old Drinkwitz in charge, App hasn’t spent much time practicing defense. And Phil Longo’s Air Raid offense will show that.
Combine all that bluster with the fact that the Tar Heels got off to a fast start in their home opener against Miami and have the vapid first three quarters at Wake Forest still ringing in their ears when the take the field. Seriously, should the team that gave up 41 to UNCC be able to stop the Carolina running game and Sam Howell, who is determined to shake the tag as a fourth quarter quarterback?
You think Mack Brown and his senior advisor Sparky Woods, who combined to coach App to a 44-24-2 record from 1983-88, are losing this game? I don’t think so. In fact, I know so.

We want our players to take every opponent serious. In fact, we probably lost to Wake Forest because we didn’t for 2-1/2 quarters. This article is so arrogant. It is Duke like and Trump like.
You probably never played sports. The game is played between the white lines and not on paper. I hope none of the players read your article.
Talking about giving a team bulletin board material, you gift wrapped it.
It is arrogant fans like you that fostered the ABC crowd. So arrogant, so conceited.
I hope Coach Mack never asks you to speak to the team
Yea, Trump like.

Larry I couldn’t agree more.
Chansky has already lost his job once for running his mouth where he didn’t have any business doing so. Hopefully Chapelboro will do the same – not because I think UNC will lose but because he’s out of touch.
You’re an idiot
You’re an idiot.
What do you have to say now? You have my email address. Respond. Your arrogance is appalling.

I do think so. Go App St
Classless. Oh and App won. Maybe you should retire from writing.
App won you classless jerk. Shouldn’t you retire?
I do have one question? How was the traffic after the game? Just another case of letting that elephant mouth overload that hummingbird butt…
Well this article aged well!! 😂😂
Amazing article with such arrogance. Do you not think coaches make adjustments when they see problems on defense? By the way, Demetrius Taylor won the national defensive player of the week. Hope you got home early and didn’t have to witness a loss to a better team. You guys can’t take anyone lightly. App State certainly doesn’t.
I want to thank you for this joke of an article. It might have just left me wondering about your knowledge of the game had I read it before. But I just came across this the day after the game and from this angle, it just made me laugh so hard! What a putz!
And lastly, App State was never in Division II in any sport.
typical snobby, smug, everybody else is a 2nd class citizen Tar Hole attitude. What does surprise me a little – no, not really – a your boss allowed such trash to be published. Loved kicking your ass Saturday!!
Classic idiot writing a useless article. GO APPS – Own this State! 🖤💛
My thoughts exactly— uninformed and arrogant! Think he is back to writing obits!
And for the record, App State has never been called OR ever should be called “The Mounties”…hope your Monday is grand down in Blue Heaven.
Dude. You are as sorry as the UNC fans that boooe’d our injured players all game. We whooped yalls A**. Punk
Just another typical article written by an arrogant over confident UNC fan who knows nothing about sports and just happens to be a sports writer/columnist who bases their predictions off of past stats and final scores. #Mackisbackbaby
A few thoughts on this …. (1) let’s remember that this is basically an opinion column. Whether you agree or disagree, this was Art’s opinion. Personally, I would tend to agree that posting things in this nature are probably not good – especially in this day and age of social media – but this is a ‘Carolina’ themed media outlet. It’s supposed to be ‘Rah Rah’ in favor of the Heels. That said, it certainly could’ve been worded differently. (2) I was disappointed to see Art list App St as Division II; that was just poor fact-checking as almost everyone knows they were 1-AA (or FCS) prior to moving up to 1-A (or FBS) (3) I’d urge all App St fans to ‘stay classy’. Yes, to the victor goes the spoils, but these two teams play again in 2021 in Boone. I would submit that that the majority of freshmen who played in this game for the Tar Heels will already have this game circled. Not to mention that Mack will be in year 3 with the majority of the player makeup being comprised of his players. (4) As far as the ‘injuries’ I think we all know that was just gamesmanship in an attempt to stall and disrupt the flow of the Heels’ offense. If cramping were an issue, you would certainly think this would apply to the mountaineer’s offense, too. I didn’t see any cramping on that side of the ball. For what’s it worth, Notre Dame players were caught – on camera – in the game vs. UGA Saturday night employing the same strategy. (5) Finally, I know many, many, many folks who went to App St and are proud of their alma matter and love their football team, as they should. But those same folks are also UNC Basketball fans. So, again, let’s keep it classy. Congrats on the win, but don’t lose sight of the fact that App St has been winning conference titles at the FBS levels while UNC has won 5 games over the past two seasons. Clearly App is the better team, an arguably the better program, for now at least.
Foolish and ignorant…great combo.
I bet you left early since you got your ass beat you tar holes. I believe the next time we play you is in Boone. You have been warned.
Opinion, or not, the article was foolishly written. (I can’t believe it was allowed to be published!) There really was no reason for someone to write such an arrogant article. What would someone gain from this behavior? It is unclear.
One thing is clear! Appalachian State Mountaineers have a winning culture and will continue to show that in the future.
Our team is also young and hungry. Bring it on!
Well, that didn’t age well 😎 The line was 2.5 points Saturday morning. As an APP fan, who took my family to Kenan Saturday, I was worried about our defense (& had confidence in our coaching staff to address that after the UNCC game). Always better to be humble and prepared than overly confident. Go APP!
BTW I forgot to mention that App State has the highest winning percentage of any NCAA North or South Carolina program at .643 with an all time record of 618-337-28, which is even better than Clemson!
What freaking blowhard!!! You know as much about college football as my dig. 1) Appalachian was never Division 2
2) we were clearly the better team on Saturday and it showed in the 34-31 score.
3) we were the higher ranked team and received votes in both polls even after giving up 41 points to UNCC
4) this is typical UNC arrogance
5) we welcome your visit to Boone in 2022
The funny thing is, the final score didn’t show how much better App was than UNC. Opening kickoff and touchdown over the middle on the opening drive were a complete fluke. UNC was fortunate to hold App’s first two drives to field goals. One of such drives included a missed pass interference call against UNC at the goal line that surely would’ve turned into a touchdown for the Mountaineers. And let’s not forget the UNC touchdown right before halftime to prevent it from being a 17 point game with App getting the ball back in 3rd, that only occurred because APP called the timeout with 8 seconds left; not Mack. This UNC team would be lucky to finish top 3 in the Sun Belt, and that’s only if they don’t have the same snobby, stereotypical attitude as the writer of this article. The number of stars your recruiting classes have do not equate to superiority over in-state “little brother.” Since losing to Clemson in the ACC championship game under Fedora, it’s clear that “little brother” has the better program.
Mack won’t be back up on the Mountain until 2022. Check your facts, too.
well spoken Frank
I agree with almost everything you stated. Your #4 is somewhat off base. The reason the offense didn’t cramp up is because they were on the field a helluva lot less time than the defense. The defensive players who were cramping up were the backs who do more running on each play. Also, if you will rewatch the second half of the game, you will notice that the App players were still in full sun while the Tarheels were in the shade. As you should well know, the mountains have been quite a bit cooler than the Piedmont for the past few weeks making the heat a larger factor. Just sayin. . . . .
Obviously a graduate of the Chet Herbstreet School of Stupidity and Arrogance. How does that crow taste now??
Hey William, you are right about one thing. To the victor goes the spoils. So I reckon the App State fans have every right to put this arrogant troll in his place. As the old Roger Alan Wade song says, if you’re gonna be dumb you gotta be tough. Well Mr. Chansky’s post sure was dumb. Stay classy? You’re joking right? This was a classless article written by a clueless writer who didn’t care enough to do his research before he hit post. App State is the premier FBS program in the state of NC. If he wasn’t intently waiting on basketball season he would have known this (for the record, basketball was invented as something to occupy time during the football offseason). As for the return trip to Boone, don’t sing it, bring it. The “flagship” has ducked ASU for years. As an App State fan and Alumni (and someone I assure you has hated ALL things Carolina from the womb) you have no idea how much I’m looking forward to the excuses and whining that will occur after we hand your asses to you in Boone in 2022. 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, it doesn’t matter. You’ll still be Carolina, and we’ll still be the bast damn football program in the state of NC!
