Make it two wins in two games for the No. 2 ranked UNC women’s soccer team, which earned a 2-0 shutout victory over the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils on Sunday as part of the Carolina/Nike Classic.

The game was played at the Tar Heels’ new on-campus stadium in front of a sell-out crowd of 4.215 fans.

Freshman Alexis Strickland provided the difference on the scoreboard, as the tiny 5-foot-3-inch striker managed to get her head on to a cross from teammate Hallie Klanke and send it in to the back in the net just 13 seconds before halftime.

An own goal late in the second half by the Blue Devils–a team that failed to register a shot on goal against UNC–all but sealed up the game’s final outcome as the Tar Heels cruised to the finish.
