As North Carolina continues to freeze over with a Winter Weather Advisory, your local news team at 97.9 The Hill has movies on their mind. Specifically, movies to watch when the weather outside is oh-so-frightful.

Take a look below for a specially curated list of movies to watch when inclement weather forces you indoors – or if you are one of the lucky few who has been sent home from school or work. Either way, enjoy!

Ron Stutts (Morning Show Host)Almost Famous (2000)

It’s a great rock and roll movie. There’s a lot of good music and a good story. I love the soundtrack.

Aaron Keck (Afternoon Show Host)The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001 – 2003)

It’s fun, it’s powerful, it’s a journey to another world, and if you watch the whole thing from start to finish the weather will probably have gotten better by the time you’re done.

Brighton McConnell (News Director)Singing in the Rain (1952)

A classic! Bright and cheery feelings, upbeat music to keep you happy despite being cooped up.

Aubrey Williams (General Manager)The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

It has an amazing (hilarious, interesting, compelling) cast and a fantastic soundtrack!

Elle Kehres (Reporter)The Sound of Music (1965)

Firstly, Julie Andrews is a national treasure. Secondly, there is no better song to listen/sing-your-heart-out to during stormy weather than ‘My Favorite Things.’ There’s nothing like a classic musical to chase away those winter blues.

Dakota Moyer (Digital Content Manager) – The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe saga (2008 – 2019)

It’s around 49 hours.

Victor Lewis (Digital Content Editor)Snowpiercer (2013)

In 2013, before Bong Joon-ho was out here winning Oscars, he was directing Chris Evans in a wild post-apocalyptic train ride that’s equal parts class struggle and comic-book action. The cast is stacked: outside of Evans, you’ll find Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, John Hurt and Ed Harris on screen in this highly entertaining adaption of an equally visionary French graphic novel.

Kenny – Dazed and Confused (1993)

First, watching this film is a really good way to spend 2 hours of your life, whether you’ve seen it once or 100 times. Also, the movie is built thematically on the excitement of the beginning of summer, a feeling that is nice to bring into your life  when it is cold and nasty outside.

Ali Evans (Account Executive)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)

It’s the weirdest and spookiest of all the Harry Potter films, and it rains basically the whole movie anyway. Why not just curl up with coffee and pretend I’m at Hogwarts?

Anna Griffin (Creative Account Coordinator)The Mask of Zorro (1998)

Being an outdoorsy child, so-to-speak, having to be cooped up inside after playing in the snow all morning was absolutely torturous. Vicariously adventuring through foreign worlds through our favorite, albeit vigilante heroes definitely alleviated my boredom. If you can’t escape the cabin fever on a gloomy day, Zorro is to the rescue!
