Did you have a sibling rivalry as a child? Do you continue to have one? Was it hyper-competitive, always over the silliest of things in retrospect and all undergirded by that bond of family? If so, we have a new program that is just for you.

If you like spectating such lighthearted — but poignant – fare, if you love sports and take your daily dose of collegiate and professional sports seriously, if you’re a Tar Heel first and everything else second, “Sibling Rivalry Sports” is for you.

“Sibling Rivalry Sports,” presented by 97.9 The Hill WCHL, is a new program featuring two real-life brothers and Tar Heels, Chris and C.L. Brown.

These siblings are part of a larger family of five brothers and sisters total, all of whom matriculated through Blue Heaven. Chris and C.L. in particular are alumni of the UNC School of Media and Journalism. Since then, they have both seen varied career paths rich with media experiences and achievements. C.L. spent the last four years as a reporter for ESPN SportsCenter and ESPN.com, covering Tobacco Road basketball (UNC/Duke) as well as college basketball on a national level. He currently works for subscription site theathletic.com, doing the same scope of coverage.

Chris began in television, working right out of college for NBC in New York City, including NBC Page stints on “Late Night with David Letterman,” “Saturday Night Live,” and “NFL Live.” He took a break from media in order to go to Seminary and work in Youth Ministry, but has returned by joining with a freelance sports reporter in Seattle, Rich Hallstrom, in forming a faith-based production company called “Thunder Sports Network” – where they were covering the Super Bowl from the sidelines. They recently published a book about their adventures, titled “The Thunder Sports Network: How a Con-Man and a Cripple wound up on the Sidelines of the Super.” The book was endorsed by David Baker, president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Chris’ brother C.L. penned the foreword.

This book brought Chris back to the steps of Carroll Hall, as he donated a copy to the MJ-school’s Park Library. In so doing, Chris interacted with faculty of the school, and the brothers wound up agreeing to a joint episode on the school’s Start Here/Never Stop podcast hosted by MJ-school Dean, Susan King.

This went so favorably that the Brown brothers began dreaming together for the first time in decades. It brought them to the doors of WCHL, where the chemistry with staff was instant. The result is what you will hear each Thursday at 7:00 p.m., on 97.9 FM as well as streaming on chapelboro.com.

The Browns have unique reach into the world of big-time sports and plan to bring that to the show, beginning with their first guest, ESPN host Josina Anderson — also a Tar Heel — from the program NFL Live.

We hope to find you ringside, as these brothers take on all comers and kinds of sports topics — including one another.
