This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Tarah Burnette from Carolina Cupboard.

Carolina Cupboard is an on-campus food pantry run by students and provides foods for residents of the UNC community, including staffers, faculty members and students.

The organization’s work took on extra importance when UNC’s campus closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, leaving some students without food options and some staffers out of work.

Facing that need, Burnette sprang into action.

“In her free time, I think she’s been delivering meals to people in need,” said Leticia Davidson, a longtime friend of Burnette. “She has always been that friendly, caring person. If she finds out that someone is in need, she is just always there.”
