This week’s Hometown Heroes, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, are Phoebe Murray and Lydia Stewart from Feed the Fight Chapel Hill.

Murray and Stewart — sisters and UNC graduates — work to deliver food from local restaurants to UNC Health workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic. They collect donations through a GoFundMe page and use it to purchase meals.

The GoFundMe page was launched at the end of March with a goal of raising $12,000. It hit that goal in just six days.

“Neither of us necessarily have a background of the kind of thing, but figured we could get it going with a little bit of passion and support from the community,” said Murray. “And we’ve truly been just so humbled and grateful by the response that we’ve received.”

The two sisters were inspired to create Feed the Fight Chapel Hill after seeing a friend in Charlotte create an initiative of their own.

“We saw this initiative and the kind of impact that it could have and we decided to get it started.”

Even after raising their initial goal, Feed the Fight Chapel Hill isn’t finished yet.

“We’ve heard from some of the nurse managers that their teams just needed a little bit of a morale boost right now. They’re working hard, they’re scared, they’re putting themselves at risk, and just showing our thanks and appreciation and taking a meal off of their mind just helps put a smile on their face.”
