This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Orange County emergency management coordinator Kirby Saunders.

Saunders was nominated by Sheriff Charles Blackwood for his help when 75-year-old Maryanne Rosenman went missing from her home last month.

“Kirby Saunders is Orange County’s emergency management coordinator,” Blackwood said, “and he had provided us with a lot of resources and program that he uses to manage these search and rescue situations or other emergency management type issues. They’re cutting edge, best practices from across the nation.”

Thanks to Saunders’ help, authorities were able to find Rosenman safe and unharmed.

When Rosenman was found, Saunders let out a sigh of relief.

“He took a deep breath and he said, ‘We got it.'”
