This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Aaron Nelson from The Chamber For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro.
As a student, Nelson served as the student body president at UNC. Now, he’s the president and CEO of the Chamber. With a small staff and a big mission, Nelson is committed to helping the local community get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There’s eight of us on staff,” Nelson said. “We serve no purpose other than to help this business community thrive.”
The Chamber worked to create a website to help local businesses navigate through these difficult times.
“It’s a partnership between Carboro and Chapel Hill and the Chambers of Orange and Chatham counties,” he said.
Nelson encourages any small business who is struggling at this time to come forward and ask for help.
“There are good resources,” Nelson said. “You don’t have to do it alone. If you are feeling frustrated, do reach out. This is a time that if you need something as a smaller enterprise, please do not be afraid to ask for it. There are advocates and champions who will help you get what you need.”
