Chapel Hill’s fare-free public transport system replaces about 30,000 private motor vehicle trips every day, providing over 7 million rides annual across 2.5 million miles of transit routes connecting stops across Orange County. It’s the second largest transit system in North Carolina, and helps bring efficiency and convenience to citizens and visitors alike. Michelle Sykes-Parker is a driver for Chapel Hill Transit, and Anita Hackney works tirelessly behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. Between the two of them, they see and serve regulars every day — including the important work of connecting guests staying at SECU Family house and the Ronald McDonald House to UNC Hospitals.
