UNC women’s basketball star Deja Kelly will represent her country this summer. Kelly was named to the 12-woman Team USA roster which will compete at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, which will be played July 1-9 in Mexico.

“Being a part of USA Basketball has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl,” Kelly said. “To have the opportunity to rep the red, white and blue to compete for gold is an honor.”

Several other stars of the women’s college game will join Kelly on the team, including Angel Reese from national champions LSU, Raven Johnson from South Carolina and former Wake Forest standout Jewel Spear.

Kelly was one of four names added to the roster on Thursday, joining an initial group of eight which was selected in May. Kelly missed her tryout earlier in the offseason due to an injury suffered in the NCAA Tournament. During the 2022-23 season, Kelly averaged 16.5 points per game and earned first team All-ACC honors for the second straight year.

Kelly and Team USA will compete in Group A at the AmeriCup alongside Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela. The team’s first game will come against Venezuela on July 1.
