The No. 1 UNC women’s tennis team messed with Texas, and came out winners.

The Tar Heels avenged a loss to the Longhorns in last year’s national semifinals with a 4-2 win in the quarterfinals in Orlando on Wednesday and will advance to the Final Four for the fourth consecutive tournament.

As in the Super Regional round against No. 16 Florida, Carolina found a way to win despite dropping the doubles point. Elizabeth Scotty and Carson Tanguilig won the first doubles match 6-2, but losses on the other two courts meant Texas would enter singles with a 1-0 lead.

Reilly Tran made quick work of her Longhorn opponent in straight sets to even the match before Texas pulled ahead again, 2-1. But tight second-set wins from Reese Brantmeier and Fiona Crawley swung the match in favor of the Tar Heels, and Anika Yarlagadda clinched the win with a 6-4, 6-3 win. The 4-2 score mirrors the Longhorns’ victory against the Tar Heels in last year’s semifinals.

Up next for Carolina is a date with No. 4 Georgia on Friday for the right to play for the national championship. The Tar Heels have defeated the Bulldogs twice this season, including a 4-0 win in the ITA indoor national championship. A start time in Orlando is yet to be announced.
