After three consecutive frustrating 1-1 draws, the UNC women’s soccer team left no doubt as to who the winner would be on Sunday. The Tar Heels celebrated Senior Day with a scoring extravaganza, sending 19 shots on goal in a 6-1 rout against Syracuse.

Carolina’s 19 shots on goal and 42 total shots are both season highs. Five Tar Heels found their way onto the score sheet, with Avery Patterson, Maycee Bell and Sam Meza each scoring in their final regular-season home appearances. Melina Rebimbas and Bella Sember each also scored for the Tar Heels. Patterson recorded a brace with two goals, and has now scored in each of her last three matches. Her eight total goals on the season are comfortably the most on the team.

Maddie Dahlien may not have scored, but she made quite the impact off the bench. Dahlien recorded an eye-popping nine shots (three on goal) in just 30 minutes, while also tallying an assist for her trouble. It was that kind of afternoon for Carolina.

The win moves UNC to 10-0-7 on the season and 5-0-4 in conference play. The Tar Heels will finish the regular season unbeaten at home for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Carolina’s final regular season fixture will see them travel to Boston College on October 26 at 7 p.m. The ACC Tournament will begin the following week.
