The No. 2 UNC women’s soccer team completed a successful weekend in the Sunshine State Sunday, throttling Miami 4-0. It’s the team’s fifth straight win.

Carolina dominated the Hurricanes for the entire 90 minutes, scoring two goals in each half and outshooting Miami 16-2. The Tar Heels held the Hurricanes to just a single shot on goal while taking 11, and won the corner kick battle 7-1.

Redshirt freshman forward Ally Sentnor got things started inside of 10 minutes with another highlight-reel goal, sending a shot into the top corner from well outside the 16-yard box. Senior Tori Hansen doubled the lead in the 33rd minute on a penalty kick. Though she plays as a defender, Hansen has scored seven goals this season, second on the team behind only Avery Patterson.

Patterson found the back of the net in the 54th minute with her ninth goal of the season, and fifth-year senior Rachel Jones netted her first goal of the year in the 71st minute.

Of Carolina’s five straight wins, four have been shutouts. Eleven of UNC’s 14 wins on the year have been shutouts, and the Tar Heels’ 10 goals allowed are tied for second in the ACC. Carolina is currently tied for first in the conference standings at 7-2 with Florida State and Notre Dame. UNC holds a head-to-head tiebreaker over Florida State by virtue of its win at Tallahassee last Thursday, but will not face the Irish in the regular season. Carolina’s final match of the season will come at Louisville on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The ACC Tournament begins the following week. The Tar Heels can clinch a bye into the semifinals, held at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, with a win on Thursday.
