For the sixth time this season, the UNC women’s soccer team settled for a draw, as the Tar Heels scored first but once again failed to hold the lead in a 1-1 tie at Wake Forest. Carolina has now tied three of its last five matches.

The match lacked many offensive fireworks, as the teams combined for just 15 shots across 90 minutes. Nine of those shots belonged to the Tar Heels, including Avery Patterson’s goal in the 59th minute to open the scoring. Patterson’s five goals this season are tied with Ally Sentnor for most on the team.

But it was a familiar face who equalized for the Demon Deacons. Emily Murphy, who transferred from Chapel Hill to Winston-Salem after last season, scored 19 minutes after Patterson to even the match at 1-1. Carolina wouldn’t send a shot on target for the rest of the match.

UNC’s six ties this year are already the most in program history for a single season, and the Tar Heels still have three regular-season fixtures remaining. Up next is a rematch of last season’s national quarterfinal, as No. 11 Notre Dame visits Chapel Hill on October 19 at 8 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network.
