The UNC women’s lacrosse team stayed undefeated in ACC play Sunday afternoon by beating No. 22 Clemson 17-8 at Dorrance Field. The game marked the first-ever meeting with Clemson in women’s lacrosse, as the Tigers are in their first season as a Division 1 program.

Freshman attacker Marissa White scored the game’s first two goals and ended with a game-high five — already the third hat trick of her young collegiate career. White is tied with Caitlyn Wurzburger for the team lead with 24 goals this season. Wurzburger kept pace with White by netting a hat trick herself Sunday, with her first two goals following White’s pair in rapid succession. That opening salvo staked UNC to a 4-0 lead inside eight minutes, and the Tar Heels never looked back.

Kiley Mottice, Nicole Humphrey and Mackenzie Rich each scored two goals in the win. In the Carolina net, goalie Alecia Nicholas made seven saves after only having to make one in 30 minutes in Thursday’s win against High Point. Nicholas has made at least seven saves in eight of UNC’s 10 games this season.

The win moves the Tar Heels to 5-0 in ACC play this season and 9-1 overall. Carolina has now won 40 consecutive games in Chapel Hill, but it will have to leave the friendly confines of Dorrance Field next Saturday when it travels to Notre Dame. The Tar Heels and Fighting Irish will face off at noon on ACC Network.
