The UNC women’s lacrosse team may have been coming off its first loss in almost two years, but they certainly showed no hangover. The No. 3 Tar Heels blew out High Point at Dorrance Field Thursday night 22-4.

Carolina jumped out to a 4-0 lead in less than six minutes and never took their foot off the gas, leading 10-1 after the first quarter and 15-2 at halftime. Caitlyn Wurzburger and redshirt freshman attacker Mackenzie Rich each posted hat tricks, while seven other Tar Heels scored twice. The dominant effort was made clear in the box score: Carolina outshot High Point 38-10 and held a 29-7 advantage in shots on goal. Goalie Alecia Nicholas only made two saves in her 30 minutes of action.

As a team, UNC dished out a program single-game record 19 assists, eclipsing the previous record of 16. Ironically, that record had been set against High Point. And while Carolina’s overall unbeaten run came to an end last weekend, the Tar Heels have still won 29 consecutive games in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels will stay at Dorrance Field over the weekend and welcome in No. 22 Clemson for the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Tigers are playing their first season of Division 1 women’s lacrosse.
