For the No. 1 UNC women’s lacrosse team on Friday afternoon, it was same song, second verse.

Or third.

Or fourth.

Carolina defeated No. 4 Boston College for the fourth consecutive time, thrashing the Eagles 16-5 in the teams’ first meeting since the 2022 national championship game.

The Tar Heels took control early and never looked back, racing to a 7-1 lead in less than 20 minutes of play. UNC’s freshman class had its fingerprints all over the win, as Marissa White stayed hot with a pair of goals, including the opener just 58 seconds into the game. White leads the team with 12 goals on the young season.

Fellow freshman Caroline Godine was one of three Tar Heels to record a hat trick against the Eagles. Godine had scored just two goals in the season’s first four games, but exploded against Carolina’s highest-ranked opponent of the season thus far. Sophie Student and Nicole Humphrey each also posted hat tricks. All in all, nine different Tar Heels scored on the day.

In net, goalie Alecia Nicholas made nine saves, including seven in the second half as Boston College attempted to rally in vain. Nicholas has now won her first five starts since taking over for 2022 graduate Taylor Moreno and hasn’t allowed more than nine goals in any of them.

The win was also the 400th in the career of head coach Jenny Levy.

The No. 1 Tar Heels are now 5-0 on the year and have won each game by at least four goals. UNC will be back in action on Saturday, March 11 when Virginia visits Dorrance Field.
