Freshman Morasha Wiggins of the UNC women’s basketball team is entering her name into the transfer portal, she announced on Twitter late Wednesday night.

“I’d like to thank the [UNC] coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to be a Tar Heel,” Wiggins said in her announcement. “The love that I hold for Tar Heel Nation will be forever.”

Originally from Kalamazoo, MI, Wiggins arrived at UNC as part of a heralded recruiting class for head coach Courtney Banghart. Wiggins was ranked as the No. 18 prospect in the nation by ESPN.

Wiggins played sparingly in 2021, appearing in 21 of Carolina’s 32 games and averaging 8.6 minutes and 1.5 points per game. She did not appear in any of UNC’s three NCAA Tournament contests.

Wiggins is the fifth player to transfer away from Carolina since Banghart took the job in 2019. Her departure, plus the departure of senior point guard Carlie Littlefield, leaves the Tar Heels with two open scholarships for the 2022-23 season, which could potentially be filled with additions from the transfer portal. Paulina Paris is Banghart’s only incoming freshman.
