UNC head coach Courtney Banghart’s busy offseason continued on Sunday, as she and the Tar Heels earned a third commitment out of the transfer portal: Stanford guard Indya Nivar. Nivar, who will have three years of eligibility in Chapel Hill, announced her decision on Instagram.

Nivar played just one season with the Cardinal, playing 35 games and starting one. She averaged 12.5 minutes, 3.2 points, two rebounds and an assist per game for Stanford, who earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament but fell in the round of 32 to Ole Miss.

Nivar is originally from Apex, N.C. and was rated as a five-star recruit by ESPN and the No. 20 player in her class. Nivar was heavily recruited by both UNC and NC State, but turned down scholarship offers from both to sign with the Cardinal in November 2021. Now, Nivar is back in her home state and will get plenty of chances to see the Wolfpack.

Nivar is the third transfer to commit to Carolina out of the portal this offseason, joining Boston College’s Maria Gakdeng and Iowa State’s Lexi Donarski. As it currently stands, the Tar Heels are set to use 14 of their 15 scholarship slots for the 2023-24 season.
