Taliyah Henderson, who spent her freshman season with UNC, has announced her intention to enter the transfer portal when it opens Monday, April 6. Henderson made the announcement on social media Thursday afternoon.
Henderson was rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 27 overall player in her class by ESPN. She attended Salpointe Catholic High School in Arizona before coming to Chapel Hill.
Henderson appeared in 33 of UNC’s 36 total games during the 2025-26 season. She played at least 10 minutes in 13 of her first 14 games, but saw that usage dwindle after the calendar turned to 2026. Henderson would play 10 or more minutes just seven times after the new year, though she did log a career-high 22 in a Feb. 22 win vs. Pittsburgh.
For the season, Henderson averaged 3.7 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. She achieved her career high of 13 points three times, most recently in a Feb. 12 win vs. SMU. That scoring dried up in the home stretch of Carolina’s season; in the Tar Heels’ final six games of the year, Henderson scored two combined points.
Henderson is the second Tar Heel to declare her intention to enter the transfer portal. Sophomore guard Lanie Grant did so Wednesday night. As a freshman, Henderson will have three years of eligibility remaining at her next school.
