A 2-0 week in conference play has paid dividends for the UNC women’s basketball team. The Tar Heels jumped up five spots in this week’s AP Top 25 poll, moving from No. 24 to No. 19. It is the program’s highest ranking since the end of the 2014-15 season.

Carolina’s 13-0 record will be put to the test in its upcoming slate of games. Five of UNC’s next seven opponents are ranked, including No. 5 NC State, who will host the Tar Heels Thursday evening. Carolina has split the season series with the Wolfpack each of the last three seasons, including a win in Raleigh during the 2018-19 campaign.

Surrounding UNC in the polls are its next batch of opponents: No. 16 Georgia Tech, who hosts Carolina on January 23; No. 17 Duke, who does the same on January 27, then visits Chapel Hill on February 27; and No. 20 Notre Dame, who will meet the Tar Heels in South Bend on January 16. UNC also hosts NC State again on January 30.

With Louisville sitting at No. 3, the ACC has six teams in the poll, which is tied with the SEC for the most of any league in the country. Carolina will host the Cardinals in Carmichael Arena on February 17.
