The downward slide continued on Thursday night for the UNC women’s basketball team in South Bend, as the Tar Heels dropped their sixth consecutive game with an 83-65 loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

It was the final road game of the regular season for UNC (16-12, 7-10 ACC), which never held the lead at any point on Thursday as Notre Dame (12-17, 7-10 ACC) shot 52 percent from the floor on its Senior Night.

Taylor Koenen led the Tar Heels with 19 points in the game, while Shayla Bennett added 17 and Medinah Muhammad chipped in 10.

The Fighting Irish led by 11 points at halftime and would go on to lead by as many as 24 in the fourth quarter, as they held UNC to just 31 percent shooting from the field.

“It was a tough night for our group, and we’ll have to regroup quickly – it’s a quick turnaround in this league, with Duke coming to Carmichael on Sunday,” UNC head coach Courtney Banghart said afterwards. “We’ll look forward to playing in front of our home fans.”
