The UNC women’s basketball team received huge performances from guards Stephanie Watts and Petra Holešínská on Sunday at Carmichael Arena, as the Tar Heels rallied to top Notre Dame by a score of 78-73.

Watts led all scorers with 25 points in the game to go with 12 rebounds and nine assists, coming just one assist shy of the first triple-double in program history. Holešínská hit six three-pointers on her way to 24 points–including a critical jumper that gave the Tar Heels the lead with just under two minutes remaining.

The Tar Heels trailed by four points heading into the fourth quarter and stayed behind for most of the period until surging ahead in crunch time.

With the win, UNC snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 8-5 on the season with a 3-5 record in conference play. Notre Dame fell to 8-6 overall and 6-4 inside the conference.

“We fought really hard, down seven in the fourth but people stepped up, hit shots, made plays,” Holešínská said. “On the defensive end, Steph [Watts] really battled on the rebounds. I felt like we just did a good job as a team coming back and not giving up.”
