The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its preseason women’s tennis poll for the upcoming team duals season, with UNC checking in at No. 5 in the rankings.
It’s exactly where the Tar Heels left off last season, as head coach Brian Kalbas’s squad ended the year at No. 5–and became the only school in America to finish in the top five in each of the last five seasons.
Stanford will begin the year at No. 1, with Vanderbilt, defending NCAA champion Florida, and Georgia making up the remainder of the top five in front of UNC.
Other ACC teams included in the poll are: No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 9 Duke and No. 19 Miami.
UNC is also the only team in America with three individuals ranked among the top 20 nationally, a list that consists of: No. 9 Elle Sanford, No. 11 Makenna Jones and No. 18 Jessie Aney.
The Tar Heels’ dual match season is scheduled to begin on Jan. 20 in Williamsburg, Virginia with matches against William & Mary and Richmond.
