The top-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team will host No. 6 Stony Brook in its season opener on Sunday, after the originally-scheduled game against No. 10 James Madison was postponed on Wednesday.

James Madison was forced to postpone the game due to COVID-19 issues within its program and due to required isolation periods mandated by the Chapel Hill area.

By scheduling Stony Brook, the Tar Heels will still get to open their season against a non-conference opponent ranked inside the top 10. UNC is looking to continue its recent dominance in the sport, and saw five players in its program named to the Preseason All-ACC team on Tuesday.

Sunday’s game against Stony Brook is scheduled to begin at noon and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
